Supporting Sleep in the Park Event

Edinburgh’s favourite Italian restaurants, The Vittoria Group have today announced their support for Social Bite as part of its ‘Sleep in the Park’ Event this December.

From December 1st to 12th their restaurants across the Scottish capital will be donating £1 per order from their A la Carte menus to the charity.

 The Vittoria Group have also teamed up with Social Bite to organise a mass pizza delivery to homeless people across Edinburgh throughout the week running up to the Sleep in the Park event on December 9th. In partnership with the charity, their La Favorita Delivered vehicles are expected to deliver over 100 Pizzas feeding individuals and families living in temporary accommodation, hostels and emergency housing across the city.

In addition the groups ‘La Favorita’ events trailer will be onsite at the world’s largest ever sleepout at Princes Street Gardens serving up Pizza slices  to fundraisers and donating all profits from the night to the Scottish charity.

Over 2,000 people have signed up to sleep rough in Edinburgh this December as part of Sleep in the Park, raising £500,000 In just three weeks since launching the event on August 30. The world’s largest ever sleep out will take place on Saturday December 9, and aims to raise £4m and catalyse a movement to eradicate homelessness in Scotland within a five-year period.

Vittoria Group is a family company, established in 1970, which now runs a number of Italian restaurants throughout the city including Taste of Italy, Vittoria on the Walk, Vittoria on the Bridge, La Favorita and up-market fine dining Italian restaurant Divino. The company also operates 30 vehicles across its four La Favorita Delivered branches at Portobelllo, Morningside, Blackhall and Leith. The restaurant is hoping to cement its place as a community focused business in Edinburgh by supporting local charities.

Social Bite are a national Social Enterprise in Scotland. Through a chain of cafes and restaurants they employ over 100 people many of whom have struggled with homelessness. They are the largest distributor of fresh free food to the homeless in the UK giving out over 100,000 items of food and hot drinks per year. This year Social Bite are inviting 9,000 people to Sleep Out on a cold December night.

Josh Littlejohn MBE, co-founder of Social Bite, said: “I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Vittoria Group for their generosity and support with Sleep in the Park. It’s a pleasure to have them on board and I hope that customers will sign up and join us on 9th December.

“So far we have over 2,000 people signed up to take part in the event, with the aim of raising £4 million. The funds will be invested in to housing solutions, addiction support and employment programmes and help a number of people out of homelessness and back into society to where they belong.”
